10 Romantic Getaways in Washington State

1 – Posthotel

When a hotel is adults-only and has a European spa, you know you’ll be in for a relaxing and romantic getaway, and such is the case with Posthotel in Leavenworth. Located along the Wenatchee River, in the heart of this much-loved Bavarian-themed small town, the hotel sets the stage to reconnect with your amour. Rooms are simple, yet elegant, and almost all come with a cozy fireplace, hand-carved marble soaking, and a private balcony or patio. I suggest reserving the balcony or terrace rooms with mountain views.

In the morning, enjoy a complimentary savory European breakfast buffet with eggs prepared to order, German sausages, potatoes, bread, cheeses, and fruits. In the afternoon, after you’ve soaked in the pool or taken a nap in one of the napping rooms, is another complimentary meal of soup and salad.

Being spa-centric, this escape is perfect for couples who prefer pampering and even if you don’t opt for a spa service the Wellness Area features a saltwater hydrotherapy pool, steam bath, sauna, cool plunge pools, and the Kneipp Stepping Pools, and lounge beds. If you do want to get outdoors there are on-site are bike, snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals.

7 – Alexander’s Castle

Lovers are sure to fall for one of the most unique stays in Washington State – Alexander’s Castle in Port Townsend. Built in 1882 in what is now Fort Worden by Reverend John Alexander for his wife-to-be, it can really be called a “castle built for love.” Sweethearts staying at the castle will have it all to themselves to romp around in the apartment-style castle furnished with a kitchen, dining room, living room, and bathroom with a claw foot tub. In the tower, the bedroom awaits with plush pillows and views of Admiralty Inlet.

Heartthrobs who are suckers for romantic movies can explore scene locations for An Officer and a Gentleman which are steps away from the castle door. My favorite spot in Port Townsend for and internationally-inspired dinner is Fountain Cafe and for Pacific Northwest fare the Silverwater Cafe. Lovers looking for a pleasurable night on the town can catch a movie and dinner at the historic Rose Theater in the Starlight Lounge. For light fare, drinks, and an unusual setting, Taps at the Guardhouse is a short walk from the castle. Then, in the evening, drive or walk down to Point Wilson Lighthouse and kiss under the stars.

Surrounded by nature’s beauty, walk hand-in-hand with your love around the hotel’s stunning grounds with paths along the woods, past ponds, and an herb garden. The Copperleaf Restaurant is phenomenal and the menu focuses on sustainable ingredients, some of which are grown onsite. 1. We’ve never been to Washington State, but it looks like there are some nice and quiet places to hide away from the crowds. So definitely perfect for a romantic Valentine’s Day! Silver Cloud Inn Mukilteo looks breathtaking, especially the rooms with a panoramic water view. We’d love to stay there one day!

    • Mei and Kerstin, The Silver Cloud Inn Mukilteo has such a great Pacific Northwest ambiance. You’ll love it!

  2. Wow! Indeed very romantic! I love this post! I love all of the hotels they are all gorgeous, with good faclities and ohh so romantic but Warm Springs Inn & Winery, Silver Cloud Inn Mukilteo, and Waterfront Inn are my top pick! I really love the ambiance and the rooms as looked on the pictures makes me feel calm especially when you go outside. Thank you for sharing top 10 romantic getaways of Washington!

  3. Really love the idea of going to a small town on Valenine’s Day. That way it’s easier just to spend time with your loved one rather than seeing sights all day long. And from your article it seems there’s no shortage of small town getaway options in Washington State!

  4. I totally forgot Valentine’s Day is coming up! I am going to save this list for future reference as we don’t live too far away. That soaker tub at Silver Cloud Inn is calling my name.

  5. I got to visit Washington State once, only got to visit Seattle. But I loved it so much that I really want to go back again, this time with my husband. I’m all about nice getaways, so I would like Alexnader’s Castle or the Lodge 🙂

    • Edith, Great choices! The castle is in such an unusual spot and it is great to be so close to the fort and lighthouse. I hope your travels find you back in Washington soon!

  6. While all of the getaways look exceptional, I think I would favor either La Conner Channel Lodge or Alexander’s Castle. They both seem to offer something different from my normal, everyday routine. But, my wife my have a different opinion. Fortunately, you have given us 10 great choices so we will have to have more romantic getaways.

    • Cristina, I’d love to hear about the places you’ve stayed at in Washington. Thanks so much for commenting. I hope you find yourself in Washington soon.

  7. Thank you for this list of romantic getaways! I was just researching getaways in Washington (I’m a resident.) last week. I’m glad I stumbled upon your list. Visiting small towns is my favorite type of travel. After traveling Italy, I was impressed with Rome, but it was the little villages in the Alps I enjoyed the most. Thank you again!

    • Ingrid, Great to meet another lover of small towns! I haven’t been to Italy and I so want to explore the small towns there. I hope the list helps you find your next Washington getaway!

    • Monik, Happy to help. I’ll be updating this page soon as the River Rock Inn is sadly no longer open.

  8. This would be a great trip for couples or families. Great list of things to do for couples. Maybe we leave the kids at home for this one.We will visit every sides.

  9. I don’t think you can possibly go wrong with any of these. They all look and sound amazing! I especially like the first one, Posthotel. Who doesn’t love the idea of Valentine’s Day and spa together?!?! And these are all great ideas for the rest of the year as well. So saving this post. Thank you!

  10. These look so nice. I don’t know if I can pick just one, but Alexander’s Castle looks the most unique. That, or the Silver Cloud Inn with the amazing water views. Thanks for sharing. Small town experiences are nice for a romantic getaway.

    • Rhonda, Alexander’s Castle is definitely a unique overnight stay and it is so cool to have the entire place all to yourself!

  11. Curious- which was your favourite? I think I like the Inn at Discovery Coast the best. I love the remoteness of it. The barren landscape of the tall grasses and sand dunes. It looks modern, yet rustic.

    • Renee, These are all great and each offers a different experience. Like you, I’m a beach fan, and I’m always up for a trip to Longbeach (and so is my beach-loving dog). Silver Cloud Mukilteo is another fabulous spot as if the tide it is out a beach is right there and if it is in a short walk away is Mukilteo Lighthouse & Park. Sunsets are gorgeous and I love seeing the ferry.

  12. Some of these getaways sound very inviting. Alexander’s Castle looks like a cute place to stay. But I think I would love the Friday Harbor House, and arriving on a ferry sounds quite romantic. The 5 course meal would be fabulous.
