The mementos I bring home from my travels are usually something like coasters of the places I’ve been to in Ireland, a unique ornament from Maui, or a handwoven rug from Morroco. In Anacortes, you can take mementos to an entirely new level with Anacortes Candles.
How? There are a couple of different ways, but first, let me tell you a little bit about Anacortes Candles.
Anacortes Candles is a locally owned family company, and everything about their candles is eco-friendly, from the mason jars to the soy candle itself. And, each candle purchase supports ShelterBox.
Make Your Memento with Anacortes Candles
Anacortes Candles, are my go-to gift for family and friends who visit Anacortes, as well as something fun for myself. Their scents are all about the experience. What do I mean by experience? Their candles recreate an Anacortes experience or activity, like Whistle Lake Cliff Jumping, Tommy Thompson Berry Mix, Anacortes Rain, Deception Pass, Cranberry Lake, and Mt. Erie Fir. There are also Pacific Northwest experiences like Lavender Seastar, Seabreeze, Skagit Valley Harvest and Island Time.
The easiest way to get your candle is to buy them online, or in Anacortes at:
- Ace Hardware
- Sebo’s Hardware
- Donatello Gifts
- The Apothecary Spa
- Woven Dreams Food CoOp
- Ship Harbor Inn
- Watermark Book Co.
There are around 20 candles scents, which come in 8 oz ($15) and 16 oz ($25).
Candle Making Session
The most fun way to get them is to make them. I’ve done it and had a blast. If you are traveling with kids, they are sure to love it too. One year, I made several signature candle scents and gave them away as gifts. I also made one for me with my own scent.
Every part of the candle making process is hands on, except the hot wax part. An Anacortes Candles professional will take care of that. The rest, such as scents and decorative elements like sand, seashells and unicorn farts is all up to the creator. You can make one of their signature scents or create your own.
Candle making takes place in their studio, which is just as colorful as their candle scents.
Costs for candle making are $30 for 16 oz. and $20 for 8 oz. If you buy two candles, you get one free.
Travel Tip: Candle making is safe for kids 4 and up.
If you want to have an Anacortes Candles candle making session, you’ll want to:
- Contact Anacortes Candles and arrange a day and time ahead of your visit (360.333.0634).
- Pick a day that happens after you’ve done some exploring on Fidalgo Island, that way you’ll know what some of the experiences candles mean.
- Don’t worry; you can’t mess it up or do it wrong. After all, the candle making session is an experience in itself!
- Have fun!!!
Travel Tip: Anacortes Candles will be moving locations in July. After this time, please contact them to get an update on their new studio location and availability for candle-making sessions.
