I’m not really into chain restaurants, but when one promotes locally sourced products, natural ingredients with food made from scratch and Pacific Northwest craft beer, they’ve got my attention.
I’ve eaten twice at NYP Bar and Grill in the small town of Burlington, Wa, for Happy Hour. I have to say each time they lived up to their promise, which is “Flawlessly served, locally-sourced, thoughtfully hand-crafted Food and Drink.”
Foodie Friday: NYP Bar and Grill in Burlington
The Happy Hour menu is broken down by price ($3.5, $4, $5, $6.5, $7, $8) with a range of food choices like soups, signature bottomless fries, fish tacos, meatballs, wings, burgers and pizza. The lunch and dinner menu expands on that with fresh salads, salmon, pasta, chicken and steak dishes.
So far I’ve tried Tuscan steak bites with pesto aioli, roasted red peppers, marinated yellow tomatoes on a toasted baguette with fresh basil ($8), barbeque chicken pizza with red onions and cilantro ($8), American burger with aged cheddar and all the fixings ($8, I switched out the fries for a salad), and my partner had the bone-in buffalo wings ($7).
The weekend brunch, which I’ve yet to try, includes selections like bottomless mimosas ($15), smoked salmon benedict ($11.25), farmers scramble ($10.25), and even a Kiddie Slam which is 3 silver dollar pancakes (blueberry or chocolate chip), one egg, Hempler’s bacon or Isernio’s chicken sausage ($4.95).
I think you’d be hard-pressed not to find something you like and the best thing it’s local, which often means supporting small town farmers and growers. NYP Bar & Grill not an Applebee’s or Olive Garden, and you can taste the difference in the food.
In October, they started $8 Burger Monday (the choice of burger rotates each month), and they list other daily specials on their website. On my next visit, I want to check out Thursday’s Tacos & Tequila, which offers tacos for $3/$4/$5 and a Margarita for $4.
